The Sixties was great fun for a hedonistic person like myself. I was loving it, but twists and turns were round the corner and the road was very slippery.
This is the final chapter of “Like a Shadow Lean”. I thought I had found the magic potion. It worked for a while but it didn’t end well.
My father created this portrait in 1939, before I was born. It has helped me to understand why we mustn’t judge the past by the standards of the present.
In 1961 I signed up to fight a forest fire in Idaho. I didn’t come home for 18 days.
I was raised in the mountains of Western Montana and as such I grew up around guns. This short story reveals how that went.

Jay,
Read your mom’s account and also your earliest job, taken at 13. I think they’re wonderfully fluid and you’re to be commended for committing them to history for your own children and grandchildren to have. Perhaps this will inspire your own children — or at least one of them — to do the same, to generate full accountings of their lives in London; what an amazing transplanting of the family! There isn’t anyone alive who wouldn’t do cartwheels to discover such a full, rich history of their ancestors as what you’re putting together here. Stay with it! Looking foward to reading more of the accounts already posted as well as any new ones that pop up. xoxoJim

Many Thanks Jim. I have been finding it particularly interesting doing all this. I also trying to collect together old photos from different corners of the family and put together a family gallery. Watch this space.

The class of, MCHS, Class of ’61 look forward to seeing you in August of 2023 ! If there is anything you need / want as to missing classmates, ones that have passed on, please let me know & will try to get you up to speed !
